Between a rich vegetation of cypress and olive trees favored by the mild climate of the lake attracted visitors for over one hundred years.
There was born the luthier Gaspaer da Salò (1540) from whose workshop emerged the first violins come down to us.

Places to visit

The Duomo in late Gothic style (XV) in full of works of art, has a portal rinscimentale (1509), a tower erected on the ruins of the existing church.
Palazzo della Magnifica Patria century lakeside building now houses municipal offices as well as also the Archaeological Museum (open hours 9.39-12.30).
The Museum of Nastro Azzurro (open hours 9.39-12.30) which exhibits memorabilia, documents and weapons since Napoleon in the Resistance.

Attractions near Salò

The Valtenesi are the rolling hills of olive trees and vines that stretches between the Gulf of Salò and to Padenghe. Continuing on the shores of the lake near Onella meet Porto Portese (4 km) with a small harbor and vantage points, San Felice del Benaco (5 km) by the Parish elegant Baroque interior and the Shrine of Our Madonna del Carmine. Old Parish Church (7 km) which takes its name from the Romanesque parish church of the twelfth century.
In area Montinelle is the Archaeological Museum Valtenesi with finds medieval, Roman and prehistoric. (Visits Winter: Saturday-Sunday hours 14-16 hours 10-12; summer visits: 19.30-21.30 hours, 10-12 hours Sunday Closed Monday).
